Glen Dye Wild Rowanberry Jelly by Caroline
This is made by Caroline, and it’s delicious served with roast meat, sausages, burgers and that sort of thing.
The rowan tree is also known as the mountain ash, a small, lovely tree that is almost supranaturally tough; it isn’t uncommon to see one growing from what appears to be solid granite cliff face, right in the path of a constant northern gale, and yet somehow thriving.
The tree is best known for its bright red berries, which are a favourite food for many birds. The fruit is generally ignored by humans, and you definitely shouldn’t eat it uncooked as it tastes disgusting and are toxic.
But. Big but.
Prepared properly these luminous berries are delicious. Once eaten, forever hooked.
Making this is a lot of work, but, man, it really is worth it.
